Professor Ramirez provides psychological expertise in the management of depression, anxiety, sexual & body image problems, relationship and communication difficulties in those affected by cancer.

Professor Ramirez practiced at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospitals for most of her professional life. Since 2014 she has worked in the private sector. She takes complex psychiatric and psychological referrals from surgeons, physicians and general practitioners from across London. Her patients include people from the world of business, royalty and celebrity, and their families.

Professor Ramirez is recognised throughout the world for her research on understanding and treating psychological distress in those affected by cancer and in ways of raising awareness of cancer. She undertook major study on burnout in doctors. She led a research programme at King’s College London looking at the psychological and social aspects of cancer from 1997-2010.  She is an author of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications and was a Principal Investigator or Co-applicant on a number of major international and national collaborative research programmes with a grant income of over £12 million.

Professor Ramirez facilitates nationally accredited communication and psychological skills training courses for doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals across the UK.  The training aims to promote honest compassionate collaborative dialogue between health professionals and their patients.

As a Department of Health national clinical lead (2001-2013), she led the development of national policy on improving the experience of care for those affected by cancer, She was a lead author of the NICE Guidance on Improving Supportive and Palliative Care for Adults with Cancer 2004. She also led the development of the most recent written information about the NHS Cancer Screening programmes based on offering choice.
