Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is the difficulty or inability to achieve or maintain an erection of the penis that results in a satisfactory sexual relationship.
It is also known as impotence. Erectile dysfunction is extremely common and increases with age. If it happens frequently, you should see a doctor.
What happens during your appointment?
When you attend your initial appointment, your consultant surgeon will ask you to discuss your medical history. This involves asking questions about how the injury occurred and what symptoms you are experiencing.
You will also be asked about your general health, any previous operations or illnesses you may have had, any medications you take and whether you have any allergies.
Treatment Options
- Minor and moderate tears usually respond to adductor exercises and physiotherapy. Most strains will settle without an operation.
- Patients with severe adductor (muscle) tears usually require adductor tenotomy (division of tendon) or release.
40% of patients diagnosed with Gilmore’s Groin also have torn adductors, which may also require surgery.
What are the symptoms you may have?
Should you experience any of the following symptoms, you should get yourself checked:
- Tightness
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- Redness
- Sudden sharp pains (this may escalate depending on the severity of the tear)
- Pain caused while stretching
- Discomfort while walking or moving
