Spider veins are faulty veins that are found just under the skin. They are commonly referred to as either thread veins, capillary veins or broken veins.
These thin damaged veins are usually red in colour and may appear to have a branch like pattern or that of a spider’s web. They don’t tend to bulge like varicose veins.
The cause of spider veins remains unclear, but they usually form when your veins become damaged or weak. This damage or weakness causes a backwards flow of blood which accumulates in the veins causing extra pressure. This overtime leaves noticeable veins below the surface of your skin.
