Ultrasound

X-Ray & Imaging Clinic

An ultrasound scan is a medical technique that uses high frequency sound waves to produce pictures of tissues and organs inside your body. These scans are painless, and your appointment lasts for approximately 15 minutes.

What happens during your appointment?

During this procedure, a Consultant Radiologist will use a special gel that is spread onto the area to be examined. Then they use a transducer, which is passed over the area. The echoes it picks up are converted into an image, which is then reviewed by a Consultant Radiologist, who produces a report for your consultant.

Why do I need an ultrasound?

To help your consultant diagnose the cause of certain symptoms you may experience, you may be referred for an ultrasound scan. Ultrasound examinations are also used by specialists to guide them through procedures, such as a biopsy.
